Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

The World Unravelled is a free weekly newsletter. We take your privacy seriously and keep things simple: we collect only what we need, use it only to send you the newsletter, and never sell it to anyone. Full stop.

This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a reader — wherever in the world you are.

01

What we collect

When you subscribe, we collect only your email address. That's it. We don't ask for your name, location, age, or any other personal details.

We may also receive basic engagement data through our email platform — such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. This is standard for any email newsletter and helps us understand what readers find useful.

02

How we use your data

Your email address is used for one purpose only: to send you The World Unravelled newsletter each week.

We do not use your data to:

  • Send you advertising or sponsored content
  • Build advertising profiles
  • Contact you about anything unrelated to the newsletter
  • Sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for their own marketing

03

Third-party tools

We use Beehiiv to manage subscriptions and deliver the newsletter. When you subscribe, your email address is stored securely on Beehiiv's platform. Beehiiv is GDPR-compliant and maintains its own privacy policy, which you can read at beehiiv.com/privacy.

We do not use any other third-party marketing, tracking, or analytics tools on this website.

04

Email tracking

Like most newsletters, our emails include standard tracking pixels and link tracking provided by Beehiiv. This tells us things like open rates and click-through rates in aggregate — helping us understand what topics resonate with readers.

If you'd prefer not to be tracked, most email clients allow you to block remote images, which prevents open tracking. You can also contact us to be removed entirely.

05

International readers & your rights

We have readers all over the world, and we respect the privacy laws that apply to you — including GDPR (European Union), UK GDPR, PIPEDA (Canada), PDPA (Singapore & Thailand), LGPD (Brazil), and others.

Wherever you are, you have the right to:

  • Know what data we hold about you
  • Request a copy of your data
  • Ask us to correct or delete your data
  • Withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing
  • Object to how your data is being used

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below. We'll respond within 30 days.

06

Unsubscribing

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link in the footer. Click it and you'll be removed immediately — no forms, no friction.

Once unsubscribed, we retain your email address on a suppression list to ensure we don't accidentally re-add you. If you'd like it deleted entirely, just email us.

07

Data retention

We retain your email address for as long as you are subscribed to the newsletter. If you unsubscribe, your data is moved to a suppression list and not used for any further communications. You can request full deletion at any time by contacting us directly.

08

Security

Your data is stored on Beehiiv's infrastructure, which uses industry-standard encryption and security practices. We do not store any subscriber data ourselves beyond what Beehiiv manages on our behalf.

09

Changes to this policy

If we ever make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We may also include a note in the newsletter. We won't make changes that reduce your rights without letting you know.

10

Questions?

If you have any questions about this policy, your data, or anything else — just reach out. We're a small, independent newsletter and we actually read our emails.
